Tofu is so good for you, but to me it tastes terrible. How can I make it more palatable?

I bought some firm tofu this weekend, but have NO idea how to cook, so any recipe/cooking suggestions are welcome.

I guess i could sautee it with veggies, but how do I give it flavor? What sauces or spices?Tofu is so good for you, but to me it tastes terrible. How can I make it more palatable?
Tofu is best if you press out any excess water and marinate it (a couple hours to overnight).

You can marinate it in just about anything. The nice thing about tofu is it takes on flavors nicely.Tofu is so good for you, but to me it tastes terrible. How can I make it more palatable?
The best tofu is the one that's sold at Chinese Restuarants. They make it with sesame sauce, and it usually comes with brocoli and rice, too. Or, you could get it with general tso's sauce and it also comes with brocoli and rice.

If you want to make home made tofu, your best bet is to cut the tofu into thin slices, pat it with a towel until the water comes out, and fry the tofu. Then, create a sauce, and cook the tofu in the sauce. I like making BBQ tofu.
Eggplant and tofu lasagna is really really good. Peel and slice your eggplant very thin lengthwise. Slice your tofu thinly. Both eggplant and tofu about 1/4 inch thick. You will want to coat your eggplant slices in flour and deep fry in vegetable oil until golden. Remove and allow to drain. For the marinara - you can use fresh tomatoes - boiled and skinned - or you can buy canned diced tomatoes. Mix your tomatoes and Lg can tomato sauce in a pot over medium heat - add basil, parsley and oregano - don't hold back with seasoning. Fresh is best - but dried herbs will do. Layer - sauce, eggplant, tofu - in casserole dish - repeat. Top with more herbs. Bake at 350 until golden brown on top. I promise - you will love it! Bon-apetit!
You're right, tofu is healthy and all but if you cook it with too much salt/sauce you'll retain water and gain weight. If you want to give it a yummy taste and still keep the healthy thing going on, I suggest you look online or buy a cook book on how to cook tofu. There are hundreds of websites dedicated to this and it'll help you find a great balance between health and taste.

i hate the stuff it is really so bland, im not a vegetarian though, ( see meat eaters its good to try things )

anyways, marinate it in a flavoured oil. chilli will make it hot if thats what you desire, but garlic, rosemary, thyme, savory, lemon, lavender ( perhaps ), mustard, basil, nut oils.

try some out and see.
My grandpa likes to cut the tofu into squares and sautee it with bell peppers (they're sweet, not spicy) and some tomatoes. He cuts them up and just sautees it until the tomatoes start to soften and the juices leak out. It tastes awesome :).
Tofu is very bland, so it takes on the flavors of what you cook with it.

I freeze my tofu to give it a better texture, and I usually pan fry it. There are some great recipes on www.vegweb.com, and I have tofu tips in my profile to avoid the mushiness people fear.
Basically, tofu is going to take on the taste of anything you cook it with. Personally I like to throw it in stir frys or make baked tofu nuggets. For a better texture, try freezing it overnight.

Try some of these recipes:

When I was living in japan I could never eat it even tho I wanted to so I got my mum to send me some jerk sauce and I jerked it it was great also a my ex use to fry it and eat it with honey it was nice .
Soy sauce, a splash of orange juice, and some crushed red pepper. A little sesame oil, and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds.

Tofu comes from soy beans. The USA supplies most of the world's soy beans. All soy beans grown in the USA are genetically modified and round up resistant. In other words, you are most likely eating herbicide when you eat soy beans and tofu.

Bon appetite!
Tofu - and most soy ';foods'; for that matter - are not healthy for you. The only exceptions are fermented soy foods like miso. Tofu is unfit for human consumption and is linked to a host of health problems.
Throw it in the bin and have a stake.
