Are you raising your child to be a vegetarian?

Just to be clear, my children eat meat. I just have a question about tofu...

I was reading a homemade baby food website %26amp; they said tofu doesn't need to be cooked...I know nothing about tofu, but...If it doesn't need to be cooked, would it make a good snack for the kids (3 y/o %26amp; 8 months)?

Can you explain tofu to me? lol What is the texture, how do you store it? Would the kids even eat it? Is it expensive? Can you substitute meat with tofu in a recipe? Where would I find it at the store? Are you raising your child to be a vegetarian?
yes tofu can be eaten raw or cooked. It is very bland plain, but if marinated or seasoned can taste pretty good. The texture varies as you can buy soft (or silken tofu) all the way up to extra firm tofu. The softer tofus are good for sauces, soups, etc. the firm tofu is good for cutting and cooking. If you dont use the entire package of tofu put the remaining portion into a tupperware and cover it with water it should keep 3-5 days (but make sure you change the water every day or 2) Tofu is pretty cheap (less than $2 a pound) but the pre-seasoned varieties can be more expensive. You can most definitely replace tofu for any meat in a recipe and its super versatile. You should find tofu in the refrigerated section either by the veggies, dairy or meat (depending on the store) however some silken varieties can be found usually in the ethnic/international isle.

Have fun experimenting! Are you raising your child to be a vegetarian?
I don't know. I would like that answered too. I always wondered. LOL.
Ew im a vegetarian and please dont feed ur children raw tofu i think its yucky.. i think u should cook it, its texture is soft and squishy and it falls apart easily i think.. its not expensive and yes u can substitute it as meat.. tofu sells in key food but if u go to a health food store, u can find ';fake meat'; it tastes just like real meat but its not. its very yummy and healthier. theres vegetarian fish, bologna/turkey slices, buffalo wings, steak, chicken, everything u can think of and it tastes the same and u can cook it the same way u cook ur real meat.
