How do you like your tofu?

I'm a complete tofu novice. I have just bought ''Organic Original Tofu'' (the brand name is Cauldron).

How would YOU cook it? How do you like your tofu?

What should I cook it with to give it lots of flavour? (would red peppers be good?)

Thanks! : )How do you like your tofu?
It can be used in many ways. I know the brand you've got, it's pretty firm - try the smoked version as well.

My preferred way to use it is to squeeze out excess moisture, then chop the tofu into squares; marinade them in olive oil, soy sauce and some tomato puree. Then skewer them with onion, mushrooms, red pepper and any other veg you like on kebabs and cook them in the oven for 20 mins (more if you like, judge by appearance) or barbecue them, OR after marinading cook the squares with roast veg - roast spuds will take a little longer than the tofu, the rest of the veg takes the same time.

Be careful if you're barbecuing them - meat-eaters who say they hate tofu usually wolf the lot, saying 'Mmmm, what's this?!'How do you like your tofu?
*great. Forgive my spelling error. =)

Personally, I would slice it thick then fry them until brown on the outside and serve with sweet chilli sauce. That is how I like my tofu.

But really - you can use tofu in many ways - in soup, in stir fries, even in salad. It doesn't have much taste in itself, so needs to be in other food to give it taste.
i love tofo! put in soups of all kinds, stir fry with fav veggies and sauces, the firmer tofo is the best and wont break as easy
I googled it and found the best type of Tofu to buy and different ways to cook it... I seasoned some with some sesame oil and seasonings and fresh ginger for couple of hours...then cut it in triangles and fried it and then tossed it with some steamed veggies, hmmmm...It is an acquired taste...I would suggest doing some reading online about it..Good luck with it..
This is my favorite way to eat tofu: slice the tofu about 1/2 inch thick, also a portabella mushroom, and some of those jarred red peppers. Fry it with some cooking spray, season with teriyaki sauce, and serve on your favorite bread with some wilted spinach. Delicious!
I've not heard of that brand.. is it sitting in a plastic container, sitting in water? Is it firm?

I like to drain my tofu well (it's sitting in water) and mash it with a fork so it looks like feta cheese..

The GOOD way is to sautee chopped peppers and onions in a skillet, then add teh mashed tofu..

The Lazy way (that I usually do LOL) is to just start lightly 'frying'; the tofu (without oil) and add the following seasonings (you'd add the same seasonings if you sauteed peppers and onions)

sautee tofu with the following seasonings

black pepper

a vegetarian ';poultry flavored'; seasoning if you can find it

Nutritional yeast flakes (if you can find them.. whole foods has em)

a bit of garlic powder

onion powder (if you don't have sauteed onion)

a slosh or two of soy sauce

when the tofu looks like it's almost done (dryer and different texture.. doesn't ahve that ';raw tofu'; look anymore) then add some chopped up tomato and/or your favorite salsa (be careful with the salsa if you DID use sauteed pepers and onions.. you don't want to tofu TOO full of peppers and onions.. if you sauteed them, then carefully spoon the ';juice'; of the salsa and no chunks, or just used diced tomato.

let it cook a few minutes longer

when it's done mix in a spoon full of sour cream, and a bit more salsa if you like..

eat it with hot tortillas!!

YUM!!

I call it my ';southwest style scrambled tofu';
* I like firm tofu for stir fries or veggie %26amp; tofu kebabs.

Veggie BBQ skewers are great

[1] Chop tofu into medium sized cubes, marinate over night (I’m using Thai yellow curry).

[2] Chop veggies medium/large pieces (I like capsicum, squash, mushroom, zucchini, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, red onions)

[3] Stick veggies %26amp; tofu on skewer

[4] BBQ for a few minutes

[5] Serve with salad, leb bread or what ever you like.

*Soft tofu is great for smoothies and for baking.

Banana smoothie

1/2 banana

1/2 glass soy milk

1 tsp honey (veg) or fruit concentrate (vegan)

2 tbs fine oats

2 tbs soft tofu

Blend it all up in a blender. It makes about 1 glass.
I like my tofu cut into ';fingers';, marinated, and grilled or barbequed.

The Muse
i like mine stir-fried!

i squish out all the water for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and sometimes marinate it overnight. most of the time i just put a yummy sauce on top and i can skip the marinating altogether. coconut curry is my favorite sauce to use, but spicy peanut sauce is a close second.

mmmmm, tofu =D
I marinate my tofu in various spices, depending on what I'm going to do with it.

I drain the liquid and marinate it overnight. That's a bit extreme - a few hours will usually do, but that method just works for me.

Any-who. I like mine pan seared and I eat it that way most of the time. Every now and then, I'll batter it in wheat flour and pan fry it in a bit of oil. I think it tastes like chicken. (of course, I haven't had chicken in many years, so I don't really remember what it tastes like....but I imagine that's what chicken tastes like these days).

Yeah. Pan seared or lightly fried. Sorry for such a long-winded answer to say that.

:-D
Here's just a little thing I made one day...

Fried ';Egg'; Sandwiches:

2 slices tofu (large enough to fit on bread)

2 slices whole grain bread, lightly toasted

1-2 Tbs. nutritional yeast (sometimes called savory yeast)

1/8 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. pepper

1/2 Tbs. cooking oil of your choice

miscellaneous sandwich fixings (I just used soy mayo and spinach)

Directions:

-squeeze liquid out of tofu with multiple towels (cloth or paper)

-on a plate, mix nutr. yeast, salt and pepper

-dredge tofu slices in yeast mix

-heat oil on medium high

-slap tofu slices on the pan and brown on both sides

-toast the bread and make sandwich fixings

-lay tofu on top and serve open faced or put them together to make a ';big mouth'; sandwich

I also love to marinate the tofu and then bake it but I don't have those recipes with me right now.

Here's a website with 80 million tofu recipes!! http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/…

*o*
i used to love tofu, then i ordered it at PF Chang's and it was very good but made me sick later. so i haven't eaten it since. but i used to make it spicy with red peppers, garlic and salt and pepper. then fry it in olive oil. yum
Well, my favorite tofu dish is a bit odd. It evolved from my liking fried okra, but wanting something more substantial to eat with the okra. When I was breading the okra with cornmeal, salt and a bit of raw sugar I decided to slice up a small block of tofu and to bread it as well and stick it in the frying pan with the okra.

As a result, the tofu sort of picked up the flavoring of the cornmeal and such, ended up tasting like a delicious cornmeal pancake. So then I put a little bit of maple syrup on it. Wow, did that taste good. Makes for an interesting breakfast.

I like to put tofu in a lot of different things however, stir frys are the most common and fun to make. Just take your favorite veggies and some tofu and heat it up in a wok or frying pan. I always put peppers in my stir fry, so yes they would taste good.

Also if you purchase tofu crumbles, you can add them to a chili to give it more protein and texture. If you buy some soft tofu you can scramble it in a pan and add a little soy-cheese, it turns out much like how a scrambled egg would be (texture wise), but much healthier.
I freeze my tofu to give it a good chewy texture (atually stored in the freezer). After defrosting, I press my tofu. Then I find a dish where I pan-fry it in seasonings. You could be totally boring and just dredge in flour and seasonings or find a fancier dish.
good choice! chop them into small cubes and bake them in red pepper paste/sauce..yummy!
You can have a look at my recipe blog on how i cook my tofu :-

You can deep-fried it and go with dipping sauce, deep-fried it, make a slit and stuff cucumber or lettuce in it, or deep-fried and pour special peanut sauce over it, deep-fried and stir-fry with vegetable, or mashed up to make tofu ball or wonton and a whole list.

Tofu and quorn cooking?

This is a question for vegitarians, i have been vegitarian for 10 years and lived on salads and veg. I have seen tofu and quorn and would love to try them both has anyone got any ideas about how to cook them and what dishes i coukd make with them, thankyou.Tofu and quorn cooking?
Just a small point - you've been a vegetarian for ten years and you STILL can't spell it................Seems like you should go back to eating meat - yes I KNOW - not an answer AND insulting. Be my guest - but I know who's healthiest just the same ! !Tofu and quorn cooking?
I use quorn all the time - we have spaghetti bolognese, quorn tikka and rice, hot mustard quorn salad, lots of stir fries and many more the list goes on it is so versatile.

Tofu i find needs to be marinated as it has no flavour-so chose your favourite marinade and away you go....good luck
,ant help with tofu but i often cook with quorn I am a cook and often use it for people who cant or don't want meat it is very good cook in same way as meat use the mince for spag bol or shepherds pie the quorn sausages are very nice a lot of my people i cook for prefer them to meat sausages
We love to grill tofu. Slice a package of extra-firm into 4 thick slices. Brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with garlic salt %26amp; oregano. Grill until lightly browned on both sides..... I also put small chunks into soups, chili or spaghetti sauce - and silken can be used as a sauce thickener
We love this mixed bean quorn stew I do.

I get the chunky quorn

Fry it with onions for a few minutes, add tin of tomatoes and tin baked beans, kidney beans and or any other type of beans, and sliced carrots and veg stock cube and add it all to a casserole dish and cook for about an hour in oven and serve with mashed potatoes it's very tasty and filling.

You can add whatever veg and herbs you fancy.
I'm not a vegetarian but I do like Quorn.

The mince is nice to use as bolognese or cottage pie.

I like the chicken fillets, I usually cook them in the microwave with some red pesto sauce and serve with pasta.

Sometimes I just use the chicken pieces instead of chicken in a hot pot and my hubby never knows the difference!!!
Hi, Quorn was one of my favourites, look at the website below for loads of lovely recipes! :)

http://www.quorn.co.uk/CMSPage.aspx?ssbi鈥?/a> -

Use this link for tofu recipes! :)

http://vegetarian.about.com/od/maindishe鈥?/a>
I made this recipe the other night, only I used Quorn in place of the chicken: http://busycooks.about.com/od/chickenbreastrecipes/r/parmesanchicken.htm

Also, I used dried bread crumbs because I had them on hand, disregarding what the recipe said, only I used about a cup for

four cutlets. I also used apple cider vinegar instead of the apple juice.

My husband the carnivore loved this dish and even said to me last night that he is begining to like Quorn better than he likes chicken! Yay!
You can now buy really delicious tofu from health food shops which has been marinated or smoked.

I normally griddle the tofu and add it to noodles with mange tout and red onions and a nice black bean sauce. yummy!

Who eats tofu???how do you cook it ??help please,ASAP!!!!?

i just got some tofu yesturday and i dont know how to cook it...how much im supposed to eat, what to do with the rest of it thats unused...and how long it takes for it to rot,go bad,smell(w/e it does!) and why is it good for you?how many times should you have it?

I got the firm one thats in a block, any low calorie dishes (that taste good!!!) i can make with it???thx!Who eats tofu???how do you cook it ??help please,ASAP!!!!?
Tofu takes on the taste of what ever is put on it.

First before you use it drain as much of the water off I put mine on paper towels and give it a firm patting.

cut off as much as you will need for that meal. the rest should go into a Ziploc bag or a sealed plastic container filled wth fresh water. It will keep for a week, but change the water daily.

I make a tofu tuna salad.

I cut the tofu into 1/2 - 1 inch cubes.

Marinade dressing........

soy sauce

ground ginger

minced garlic

fresh ground pepper

very sm amt sesame oil

also a little vegetable oil

for extra flavor ---a tiny bit of cayenne

mix well---and let tofu sit in that sauce. the longer the better esp for a beginnger.....I just dip it in the sauce and eat it.

Now to build the salad.....I use soild albacore tuna canned---if your lucky enough to have a piece of fresh fried fish use that.

Make a bed of baby greens in your plate, place small pieces oof fish on the greeens and then placle the tofu over that spoooning as much of the marinade on as you like,

My gosh...go to the book store and there are lots of cookbooks just for tofu

EDIT---one more simple way to enjoy tofu on a cold night.

I heat up a pak. of Knnors chicken broth, cut the tofu into very small cubes, season with pepper. I also like to put in a small amt. of green onions...yuummWho eats tofu???how do you cook it ??help please,ASAP!!!!?
i dont know what that is..and i really dont know how to cook it..

go online..youtube for videos or i recommend google lol..

OMG! What do I do? I just burned my pan? HOw do i get it out?!?

Okay, before i turned on the stove, to cook some tofu/ mushrooms/ and broccoli inside this pan or pot, and i went to my other room and forgot about it. Then like i started smelling my food, and i rushed out and the food got burned at the bottom!! I took out the good ones (from the top) and i put itt on a plate and i tried getting the burned stuff out. I managed to get the food, most of them out. But there's like a thick black burned stuff (that i assume is like carbon) and its stuck at the bottom of the pan. I kept putting soup and boiling water to dissolve, but when i pour the water out, i see brown water. I tried scratching out the black stuff with my metal spoon, but it won't get out! What do I do? Please help me.. I don't want my mom to find out.OMG! What do I do? I just burned my pan? HOw do i get it out?!?
Fill the pan with water and about a half cup of salt. Bring it to a boil and (don't forget it) and then let it set for several hours or overnight. You should be able to easily scrap the black form the pan.OMG! What do I do? I just burned my pan? HOw do i get it out?!?
I would tell my mom would happened. Try puting hot water and let the hot water just.....stay in the pan for awhile. then wash it as best as you can and tell your mom what happened. I'm sure understand ^^
put lots of baking soda in the bottom of the pan with a little bit of water, let it soak till the next day, should come out.
You'll have to tell her, and it was stupid of you to walk away..but that it was an accident. Truth prevails...and I've done that before, but I actually melted the bottom of the pan and even burned a spot on my counter from the melting pan that dripped. My mom got over it after a week :) good luck!

Sorry Suzi, Dozed off half-way through your list. Now i,m going to try again, catch you later.
I agree strongly lol
I think that all men willing to sacrifice any and all enjoyment in their lives should take this course. No man would want to be with a woman who believes all that is true.

And maybe you should take a course in the correct use of capital letters and punctuation in a sentence...
She's Baaa' ak! Lol, Thanks for your sense of timing! Too Funny. ?

Edit: Since I am supposed to answer this question I say why not! They will get the education one way or another.....Oh, that reminds me of a song! Gonna getcha, getcha, getcha!

, sorry u got left at the altar, the man must have been busy marrying a real woman. sorry Commanding Officer Suzie Must be lonely Manless
This is very cute, to the point and helpful..except the toilet seat part...please cite ONE good reason women cannot put a toilet seat DOWN! Believe it or not (not is usual), life does NOT revolve around the ';hmmmm...weaker sex.'; Do not blame me if your brain does not work well enough to just sit down and go..MEN look before they leap, so to speak...and beleive it or not, men do usually sit on a toilet at least once a day...OR, perhaps women would just prefer that a man take a piss with the toilet seat down???? NO, I didn't think so. Please explain why men get blamed when a woman, in stupidity, falls into the toilet! It is like saying, ';YOU KNOW I AM TOO STUPID TO LOOK BEFORE I SIT...KNOW IT AND LIVE BY THAT RULE...of course there is a price to be paid for this mentality...if you are too dumb to lower a toilet seat, it will leave a man wondering just how smart she is in the rest of her life. :-) Phil
I am not ashamed to say that I could use a refresher. My wife taught most of these courses and I still failed to follow through on the second semester stuff. She keeps trying but it is more fun to watch her occupy her time with needless things than it is to conform to whining
All of what you mentioned is true to life.
Yes. I can probably add a few courses to that list, too.
Oh yes for sure they should. LOL
Man with an education like that, ALL men would be bachelors. As a point to ponder 'That damn toilet seat' --- show me the man that pees on an electric fence more than once (and he don't even get his butt wet).z
How many times do they have to take EAT 103 before they qualify to apply for a marriage license?

Sorry, but this was stupid the first 20 times I saw it...
