Chicken Tofu,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ENJOY!!! :--0

(16 ounce) package firm tofu, drain well

3 tablespoons safflower oil or butter

3 tablespoons soy sauce or Braggs liquid aminos

1/3 cup nutritional yeast

2 teaspoons spike seasoning salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional)

Drain tofu well.

Heat oil in frying pan, preferably a non-stick skillet.

When oil is hot, add tofu by breaking it into random size pieces about 1'; x 1';.

Cook tofu without turning for about 5 minutes.

Turn tofu and cook for about 4 more minutes on the other side.

Turn off the heat and add the remaining ingredients.

First you put in the soy sauce and stir so as to cover all the pieces of tofu.

Then add the nutritional yeast, spike and black pepper.

Toss and coat all the tofu pieces. How do you cook tofu to taste like chicken pieceS? like quorn chicken style pieces?

Tofu has no taste of its own. It takes on the taste of whatever you cook it with. So if you want it to taste like chicken you will have to cook it in chicken stock.
The trick to making tofu taste almost just as good as meat/poultry? It's called ';mushroom powder.'; You can find this at the local Asian supermarket. It does wonders..

My favorite is stuffed tomatoes (with tofu instead of ground beef).

Once it's flavored with mushroom powder (1-2 T per package) marinate it with other ingredients like garlic, cilantro, green onion (white part), shallots, oysters sauce, salt, pepper and a tiny bit of sugar(to counterbalance the other flavors- 1/4 T). Afterwards, mash it. If you want a crispy texture, heat up a non-stick frying pan with 1T canola oil and fry it in there. It tastes really crunchy and good!

Good luck!
You have to use soy chicken, tofu will just break up.
The ';magic'; of tofu is that it absorbs the taste of anything in which it is cooked. Therefore, I would think that you would first have to flavor the tofu with chicken broth. Just pour the broth in a bowl, place cut up tofu into the broth, and let soak overnight. It is sort of like marinating meat.
