Animal skin and going vegan?

I'm a vegetarian, but my family is not very supportive.

My mom cooks some of my meals but i have to cook most of them (which i'm totally fine with),

but i can't put up with my dad's teasing. He thinks i'm being stupid for going vegetarian.. but after making that choice, i don't think i'll ever go back. If anything, i'll go a step further. I want to go vegan, because (although i thought different before) animals are still being killed in the dairy industry. Half of the cows are males, which are killed.

Deny it all you want, i just don't want to consume animals anymore. I was going to wait until i move out because then i'll fill my house with the food i want, and not have to share the fridge with dead animals, but i don't know if i can wait that long. What are some good alternatives for food when being a vegan?

** What can i use as a protein supplement as of now? (I'm eating tofu, simulated meats, beans, etc.)

Also, i don't want to wear animal skins such as leather. I just realized today, that i might have been wearing some suede..

** from what animal is that, and how do i know if a purse/shoes are animal skin?Animal skin and going vegan?
Payless Shoesource has lots of shoes and handbags that are made with faux leather(synthetic, manmade, non-animal fibers).

Faux is French for fake.

I always go to payless for my shoes and sneakers.

Their prices are great, and they have a lot of shoes and sneakers that say ';all manmade materials'; on the tongue to let you know that it is vegan.

Boca, Morningstar Farms, Lightlife, and Amy's Kitchen are brands of vegetarian/vegan foods that can be found at Pathmark, Stop %26amp; Shop, and supermarkets that sell organic foods.

They have vegan riblets, vegan ham slices, vegan turkey slices, vegan chicken sandwiches, vegan chicken nuggets, vegan ground crumbles, and much more.

Here's the link to their websites. Be sure to read the labels before buying the items, because some of them have eggs and/or dairy.

Chinese Restaurants sell sesame bean curd with rice and general tso's bean curd with rice.

For holidays, I like eating Morningstar's Vegan riblets with sweet potatoes, corn, macaroni and cheese or plantains, and blueberry pie.

Or, I make tofu turkey with baked potatoes, rice and beans, avacadoes, and apple pie.

Don't let anyone discourage you. A vegetarian and vegan diet is healthy, good for the environment, and helps fight against animal cruelty.

People who eat meat feel threatened by those who don't eat meat, because it causes them to think about what they are doing when they buy a pound of pork that was tortured and slaughtered before being shipped to the supermarket.Animal skin and going vegan?
God created earth and all the animals in it right? And He created the animals for us humans to eat.. So im sorry if im bringing u down of whatever but i think going vegan is wrong. And yes, some animals are being abused of whatever. But thats in other countriies and the USA isnt cruel like that. So good luck with going ';vegan';, and btw have u joined PITA..? :)
protein while being a vegan: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm

clothing and things like purses have labels in or on them that tell what they are made of.

Go 2 WWW.GOVEG.COM %26amp; order a free starter kit.
There is TONS of helpful information on the internet out there about being vegetarian / vegan so I would definitely keep searching. I've been vegetarian for 6 years now and still look up new info! As for myself, going vegan is a long term goal that I eventually want to achieve. I gave up milk and drink soy milk instead, and I'm going to give up honey (just little adjustments). I would do more but I'm still living at home and vegan would be too difficult at the moment, though I am a complete animal rights activist so I surely want to for the better of all animals!

As for your dad, you need to have a serious conversation with him. Don't shrug it off or let it slip by, trust me. Get mad and stand up for yourself! Tell your father that this is your adult decision that you're making, and that you will not tolerate nor respect his innapropriate teasing. Trust me on this one. Stand up to him!!

(BTW- apparently Meg above me is living under a rock..)
Do you know that the whole protein thing is a hype? Let me tell you why:

* Americans consume twice the amount of protein than what's needed by the body. That creates many problems and gives rise to life threatening diseases.

* Almost all whole foods have protein, including potatoes, wheat and rice. If you are eating whole foods you are getting enough protein.

* You may try dairy, instead of meat, for extra protein. That would make you lacto-vegetarian. Still no killing involved. If you are concerned by the way cows are treated, then go for Organic Dairy.

Hope this helps.
Suede is also leather. It apparently often comes from calves (think of it as the ';veal'; of hide). If you decide to give up wearing animal skin, etc, please do NOT throw away your purses, sweaters, and so forth. Give them away. Some vegans will wear their leather and wool until it falls apart, then dispose of it. That's usually considered okay, since you already had it and are not supporting the industry anymore. Some people just don't feel like wearing someone else's skin. Tossing it is bad for the environment, wasteful, and (in my opinion) dishonors the animal.

Your protein intake looks pretty good. Are you eating whole grains? They are also good, as are seeds and nuts. Potatoes and some savory fruits have a bit of protein in them as well.
1. There are no male cows. Be definition, cows are female. Male dairy cattle usually go to the veal industry. A luck few get to become bulls, but bulls are extremely territorial.

2. When you get old enough to move out on your own, you can stock your refrigerator with whatever you (and your roommate) would like. Until then, suck it up and deal.

3. You're going to need a thicker skin if you want to go vegan. If you're upset because your dad makes fun of your vegetarianism, you're going to be miserable when even vegetarians make fun of you for being a vegan. Right or wrong, veganism is a personal choice. One that you'll need to live with and accept, good and bad, should you choose to go that way.

4. If you really want to go vegan and live a healthy life, see a registered dietitian. Not a nutritionist or holistic guru or ';that dude from the health food store';. An R.D. is a licensed, regulated professional that can help you make the best choices. People on the Internet are about as trustworthy and authoritative as a guy on a street corner.

5. Suede is just leather. The conditioning is different than smooth leather. Most commercial goods need labels stating the product's origin. Read the label if you are in doubt.
I agree with your father on this one. Guess what, there is no such thing as a male cow. That's like a male woman.

Meat is very healthy and is an important part of the diet. Plus it tastes very good. It is cruel to plants to kill them, and they can't even fight back or run away.

The best protein supplement is whey, from milk.
