Eating vegetarian with a meat eating family?

I've been surfing the initernet and I found lots of vegetarian recipes, but the only problem is that I don't know how to cook. I would really like to learn how to cook, but I don't have anyone to teach me. My dad is weird about me cooking and he wouldn't even let me make a tuna fish sandwich by myself (I don't eat tuna anymore though). I recentley became a vegetarian and my dads a little worried about what I'm going to eat when he makes meat. I know that they make veggie burgers and stuff, but he said that hes not going to go out and grill me a burger every time he has meatloaf. I want to learn how to cook some veg meals but nothing to hard, because i've never really used a stove or oven before. Another thing I was wondering was if anyone knows any recipes that will please a meat eater and that I can substitue the meat out with tofu of something? I can't make them give up meat, but I can adjust the recipes in order to make my meal vegetarian friendly.Eating vegetarian with a meat eating family?
Try tempeh! It works as a meat substitute and it's delicious if you fry it in a pan with a little olive oil and some teriyaki sauce!

In case you're wondering what it's made of, it's usually just fermented soy protein. It's way better for you than tofu because it's not as processed.Eating vegetarian with a meat eating family?
I'm in the same position. Learn to cook - I bet your mom wouldn't mind helping you out.

I usually have vegetables, veggie burgers, falafel and tofu.

Go to the store and ask if they have and vegetarian ready-meals meals, too; they're easy to cook, usually just with a microwave or oven.
I don't see what's wrong with going to the store and buying a package of veggie dogs during your stop to buy a rack of ribs and some sausages. Veggie dogs are ushually sitting right next to their meaty opposites in the same section.
cooking isn't hard. it sounds like you're young though. you can microwave veggie burgers, you know. or just learn how to flip one on the stove. seriously, i don't get it. it's not hard, unless you're like 11.
If you can read, you can cook!

Go to www.allrecipes.com and search for whatever your vegi-fied heart desires. There is a function where you can put in what ingredients you DO want and which you DON'T want so you can exclude all the pork, chicken, and beef.
well.,.,.,.,.no is not wrong but if there ok with it!!!!!!!

you can always eat your families side dishes. they can keep the meat out of the final product and add it in later. it's good to eat a lot of beans. they're tasty and easy to make. just open a can and toss them in a salad. you can microwave a vege burger yourself if your dad won't grill one. you could also try nd get your family to make more vegetarian food like tofu stir fry and channa masala.
Just substitute your own vegetarian food for meat. As a meat-eater, I'd have to say that no vegetarian food will fully satisfy a meat-eater. My sister is a vegetarian in a meat-eating family. When we have meals together, she just cooks her own dish to substitute for the meat dish (we still eat a grain and a vegetable with the meat). She cooks her own dish. You can get good, easy-to-prepare, meat-substitute dishes at any market (there's usually a vegetarian section in the freezer aisle). Or you can buy a vegetarian cookbook at any bookstore to help you learn how to cook.
Start learning to cook now, and it'll get easier and easier. Start with something like grilled cheese; put a little oil in a saucepan, put cheese in between two slices of bread, and put the sandwich in the pan. The hardes part is timing and flipping, which will get easier as time goes on. Search the net for easy vegetarian recepes and you'll find plenty. Also, look for fake meat; they have imitation ground beef and strips of chicken, and the burgers can easily be cooked in the microwave. If the family is having a dish which involves meat, just have whoever's cooking put your portion aside when it's time to add the meat. They can add the imitation stuff to yours instead. Good luck, and don't be afraid t experiment.
I am not a vegan but here is a GREAT recipe we got in cooking class and you will never be able to tell the difference between this and egg salad. I make it for hubby and he has no idea! It is a way to get his cholestrol problem taken care of and he thinks he is eating his eggs.

Eggless Egg Salad

8 oz extra firm tofu

2 T lite mayonnaise (good mayonnaise)

1 1/2 tsp yellow mustard

1/4 tsp soy sauce

1/8 tsp salt

1/8 tsp garlic powder

1/8 tsp tumeric (needed for color too) if you want to fool them .. USE IT

1/8 tsp celery seeds (vital for flavor...excellent)

1 1/2 T finely chopped sweet gerkins or more if you want !

Dice tofu into smaller chunks and put in bowl and break up with fork . Add remaining ingredients and mix until consistency and color of egg salad. Chill and serve on Whole Wheat Pita Bread with lettuce.

It's pretty easy to create a vegetarian meal.

You can start by heating up a can of vegetarian chili. Pair it with a baby field greens salad and you've got a complete meal.

Instead of hamburgers, try veggie burgers. Same with hot dogs (meatless hotdogs)

You might ask your dad if you can visit a nutritionist -- if you are young and growing, you want to be sure you're getting all the nutrients you need. It's not impossible to do so as a vegetarian, but it is a little more difficult.

Good luck!
You can get a LOT of different kinds of veggie options in the freezer section that you only have to put in the microwave. I LOVE the thai and indian stuff, but if you want burgers, 'chicken', nuggets, meatless balls, pizza, hot dogs, pasta--it's all available! And fresh vegetables are easy to cook in the mic, too. You can take two portobella mushroom caps, drizzle on some oil, salt and pepper, garlic powder, put in a bit of water to steam, cover in plastic wrap, and heat for a couple of minutes. Yummy!
